All of the payouts come from a pool that is a fixed size at any point in time. When one post gets less, others get more. Downvoting one post is equivalent to upvoting every other post getting a payout

How do you measure the value it is likely to generate? It's an opinion but a question I ask myself in forming this opinion is how much would any for-profit (or even sustainable non-profit) web site pay

Thanks for the vote

I do like to know how the person(s) behind [the @smooth] account make their decisions I have a mental framework that Hive as a blockchain is a business and if it pays out more in post rewards than it gains

@dalz does these reports. I make sure that the stabilizer returns all of it's funds to the DHF and trades in a way that is generally sensible (likely to break even or turn a profit over time), but I don't

Conferences and other promotion.

There isn't an easy mechanism but @dalz has quite a few posts which analyze it.

The other way around it is to change the debt calculation via hardfork, but that will drastically and suddenly change the debt and can impact the HBD health If the calculation were changed, I'd propose

Nothing prevents making a one-day (or, technically, one hour) proposal that pays out the entire budget up front, apart from whether stakeholders would approve it.

Good explainer

The big accounts control it to a degree, and they obviously have a lot of influence. As you say (and I agree) this may be the fairest way. But there is a lot of influence cumulatively in the smaller accounts

We need to be much more selective of what DHF proposals get approved We all have that within our hands, most directly by voting for the return proposal. The more votes that go to return, the tighter the

Buying and selling of it through the various exchanges and pools.

Maybe increase the buying spread? Like buy when HBD is at 0.95. Basicly take a fee, increase the profit for the stabilizer Hard to see how this does anything but encourage other users to buy and convert,

The stabilizer only considers the HBD price (<$1 or >$1.05) in deciding whether to convert, not the HIVE price.

Lowering the HIVE value doesn't cause any more conversions. Only lowering the HBD market value below $1 causes conversions. In the short run less selling (or more buying) of HBD would put a stop to

I replied at the top level as well as a few other comments in the tree. You may be interested to read those.

Won't help. If HBD drops below $1 then other people will do conversions. In fact that would make matters worse because at least with the stabilizer doing it, any profit from the conversion goes back to

Yes conversion always uses a value of $1 (except in the haircut condition when it uses a lower value).

Can't revert it, but we can control how much more goes into circulation.
