You turn on your laptop, search for ideas, create skeletal frames or update your design before showcasing to clients, grab a quick bite and this process continues. We will dive in to the daily life of a UI/UX designer and understand some struggles the industry faces.
UI/UX In Singapore
Singapore is an attractive place for startups and companies. A large portion or almost all startups have a digital component to their product. Therefore, it is believed that the market for UI/UX designers will continue growing. Generally, the work is not just about analysis and aesthetics.
UI/UX Job Scope
Well, I’m sure most fellow UX/UI designers will agree with this following quote:
It is the pure reason why they exist. To simplify things to as idiot-proof, while the user is having a pleasant experience. But it is also due to the same reason that it is very tiring, after revisions of sketches, mockups, and discussions with clients. The thing is, most people are never satisfied. And as a UI/UX designer, we probe into the whys and seek for solutions to eliminate these issues.
UI and UX designers perform a lot of research and also communications with other product stakeholders on feedback, etc. Undoubtedly, it is rather energy-sapping a job, as UI and UX designers will struggle to sell the idea to their clients that this is something which is tailor-made, and WILL WORK. It is a case of “having tried and tested” and gradually convincing the client.
Of course, feedback comes at the expense of time and money. I recall being one of the participants for a company that was improving on its app that I used rather often. There was a focus group discussion, and people could find what they disliked, but not what they liked in the app. Discussions intensified as they zoomed in to every nitty gritty feature on the app. And in the end, after 2h, I got a $20 book voucher. This was an attempt for improving user experience, and yes, we do it sometimes too.
UI/UX Job Requirements
Companies will require talents who can execute User Interface (UI) design and User experience (UX) well. Unfortunately, there are not many people who are very passionate about the job, or have the right skill sets, specifically the understanding both design and technology.
