I make some jewelry, but there isn't much money there. When times get tough, jewelry often becomes melt value.

Today, food and medical supplies are a good choice for fast prepping.

Hard assets are insulated from inflation. Gold was $32 an ounce when I was a kid. A dime from 1964 is now worth about $2.75, and it's a good reflection of actual inflation. You could sell $50 in silver US coins, you could buy a decent used car!

Beginning on metal collecting, old US coins (or another local silver coin) are cost effective, and are an easy starting point.

The important thing is to begin! Anything is better than nothing, so even starting small can help.
