The biggest problem with the 7.62 by 54 for fully automatic use is the lip on the casing. The .308 NATO round is significantly easier to use in a machine gun.

Having fought a lot of moulding problems, I wonder how this will survive higher temperature battlefields? But it is definitely worth a look! They will likely use a plastic that breaks down under UV, for self cleanup.
