That was pretty radical at the time, most countries dod not even do that. They started only allowing property owners to vote, since they were the only ones that had risk involved. From the start free black Men were allowed to vote in a number of states.

We have made a lot of progress, both good and bad. The property owner concept would reduce the voting for free things from the government, and that would help our deficit spending, that will eventually bankrupt this Republic. This was their concern that originally cause this choice.

But everyone having a vote (and ONLY one vote) is good, if we could just get everyone to vote for the good of the Nation. I also think that voter fraud, and ballot box stuffing, should be treated as Treason, and dealt with accordingly! Those doing it on a large scale, if convicted, should be shot. Those caught double voting, should no longer be allowed to vote permanently. If we are going to do the one vote for all (which I like) it needs to have Teeth!

We need to leave the Electoral College in place, to reduce the effects of crooked local politics; as it was designed to do.

I find it interesting that voters can be pulled over and ticketed for the lack of a drivers license (picture ID) right outside the voting place, but are not required to present ID to vote....
