One of the things most missed when prepping is actually using the supplies you are storing. Deep storage is good, but if you have never cooked using it; you could get in trouble!

First, you may find you don't like what you stored, after it's too late to fix it. Next, it would be smart to develop recipes before the SHTF, because it might be necessary to buy extra spices; to get a good result! Small problem today, but a possible major problem if you can no longer find those same spices, when things get tight.

So, we make a meal from deep storage supplies each week. It saves cash, and forces us to come up with recipes, using supplies we aren't used to using! The saved cash is being used to buy more prepping supplies, while we are still able to buy and sell.

I am experimenting with mixing several stored items, to get a different flavor. This will help avoid menu exhaustion, down the road!

We had a tasty dinner:

This is a mix as follows....

Into 2 quarts of water I added:

A cup of rice.

And 3/4 cup of lentils:

All in the same pot.

1/2 cup of red lentils:

They have a different flavor than the standard lentils!

Then I added 3/4 cup of salt and pepper quinoa:

For looks, as well as the nutty taste.

To this I added 4 chicken bullion cubes, and a can of cream of chicken soup. Then it needed an 8 oz jar of mushrooms 馃崉; because I like them, LOL!

I ask one of my survival group to come by, about once a week; so we can both try these storage based dinners. This friend (I'll call him Randy, because I didn't ask him first) liked this enough, that he came back for seconds. It is a very nice flavor mix! We will be using this recipe later on.
