One of the mistakes we make as humans is giving much attention to one aspect of our life and pay little or no attention to the other. Often, 100% of our sensitivity is on what happens outside of us, while we give zero or diminutive attention to what happens within us. Can I surprise you? Until your internal and external life is balance, you will continue having limited achievements.
Recently, mom told me a story of a man in our neighborhood, who had a very positive attitude and mindset towards life. This man believed in possibilities despite what life presented to him. This positive attitude of his fetched him good resources. He had two hot companies in town, yet, could not manage it or make something good out of it due to his unhealthy relationship with people around him which he also extended to his employees and clients. His employees worked for him without being shown a token of appreciation or being paid on time, at times, he pays them once in two months. This lifestyle of his affected the workers’ productivity which in turn killed the reputation of the company till it began dying off gradually. He then organized some of his workers in the two companies to know what is killing is company. One of them stood up and said; “sir, are you a human?” the man angrily answered “what a silly question, if I am not human then how then did I employ you to work for me? I have two big companies, which is about withering out due to your unproductivity and here you are asking me if I am human…” The worker then replied again; “humans have empathy, humans show appreciation, humans apologize when they hurt, humans pay their workers knowing that they also have needs, but you possess none of these qualities. At times, we think we are working for a robot”. The rich man being touched by these words wept bitterly and confessed that he has been giving much attention to what goes on within him that he forget about people around him. Here, he learnt the importance of being balance in life.
Often, we also give 100% of our attention to external things like fun, relationship, work and the rest without challenging ourselves intellectually or creating opportunities for our mind to rest on. We fail to care about our heart and health. Both our internal and external affairs are very crucial. Once we neglect one, we get detrimental result from the other. To live right, we must ensure our internal and external life is on a balance proportion.
