Greetings fellow Ghanaians and Hivers,

It's skyehi@skyehi and I'm happy to be back again to speak for my beloved country. In my previous post which was quite successful with much support and feedback from this community, I discussed the natural resources of my country Ghana.

In today's blog post, I'll be sharing on the topic of the impact of technology on Ghana's development.

I know this might seem like a general topic but I'll share some special points that relates specifically to Ghana.

Ghana is a country where tradition meets the future. I sat back some years ago and watched the popular African superhero movie, "Black panther". I couldn't help but imagine the future of Ghana possibly looking like Wakanda.

What a wonderful thing it would be for us Ghanaians right ?

That pure cultural heritage and traditions merging beautifully with advanced technology.

In today's blog, let's dive into how technology is shaping Ghana's development so far.

The touch of technology on Farming

Now think of Ghana's hardworking farmers with new gadgets and handy apps. Already these farmers work tirelessly with some very old farm tools and tech.

The modern technology in the hands of such hardworking farmers definitely turn them into digital superheroes, armed with tools that tell them the weather, share market trends, and give expert advice.

The modern technology and concepts will help them make better decisions and grow more crops.

Education's Digital Evolution

One thing that is without a doubt is that a lot of Ghana's schools are getting a high-tech makeover.

It's no longer just textbooks and chalkboards anymore.

We now have online lessons with zoom and other video platforms, digital study materials like personalized apps and websites, and even courses on the internet. All this tech is definitely changing the game.

Nowadays, the kids as little as 4 years and sometimes even younger know how to operate a phone better than old folks who were born way before computers and smartphones became a thing for everyone.

This goes to show how advanced we're getting and how sharp the young ones are becoming when it comes to their understanding of modern technology.

Imagine students anywhere, even in far-off places, getting the same quality education.

Digital Health for All

One other thing that's improving with technology in Ghana is our healthcare. I remember about a decade ago visiting the hospital.

To be honest my first experience visiting the hospital was a total disappoinment.

The reason was that I had not visited a real life hospital before because I normally don't get so sick that I had to go to the hospital. The pharmacy was enough to handle my problems. But when I got to the hospital, it didn't look like what I saw on television in those western world countries at all.

It was around 2013 I think but everything looked like 1995馃槃. But fast forward to today, and everything has so advanced. I'm really proud of the progress we're making in Ghana.

And there's even health apps on your phone to help you manage your health. It's like having your own health sidekick right at your fingertips.

Mobile Money: Cash in Your Pocket

Financial services are also getting a tech makeover in Ghana.

It's all about using your phone to send money, pay bills, and even get a loan. There's no need to move to the banks for little money transactions. Your phone becomes your mini bank.

It's not just about convenience; it's also boosting the economy. We've got awesome mobile money services from companies like MTN and Vodafone.

Startups: The Heroes of Innovation

One thing that is without a doubt is that the youth in Ghana nowadays are very ambitious and have really big dreams of doing great things in the business world.

Thankfully there's support.

With help from the government and cozy places like the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST).

Although my only concern is that some of the youth have an unfortunate mindset of wanting to leave the country when they make it big time. The right thing to do is to stay in the country and help develop it to look like the countries we see and admire.

Challenges and Opportunities

While technology and passion are the heroes of the story, I believe there are a few villains to conquer.

The problem is that not everyone is a tech whiz in our country, there's still a majority of the citizens that still need help with the basics.

The unfortunate lack of information about the technology they use can make them susceptible to fraudulent activities and scammer's attacks.

I believe Cybersecurity is the guardian of the digital world and it will keep us safe from online threats.

However we need to keep pushing and advancing our knowledge in using technology to protect ourselves from people who use the same technology to try to take advantage of us.

But I also think the biggest challenge is making sure everyone gets a piece of the tech pie, no matter where they are or how much they earn.

Yes technology can be a bit expensive, but I believe there are ways of helping to let everyone get access to them.

For instance we can start focusing on manufacturing cheaper ones for ourselves and even export some to other countries. I think it all starts with accepting and loving our own products.

Just like nattybongo@nattybongo shared in the comment of my previous blog on HiveGhana,

if we expect change then we should start from the man in the mirror which is you and I, if not then history is bound to repeat itself is the years ahead - by nattybongo@nattybongo

Indeed technology is driving our country forward and it's our responsibility to use it for good and not for evil. I'm happy that Hive has created a space for Ghana as well. This means Ghana is not left out in the future of Decentralized Blockchain based social media platforms.

I'll end my blog by saying thank you for taking the time to read today's post. I hope you enjoyed it and found it both informative and entertaining. As always my blogs are open for any question or comment you may have regarding the blog topic. I'll be more than happy to respond to them.

Have a lovely day and catch you next time on HiveGhana. Goodbye 鉂わ笍
