An open source clone of photoshop was just released, called “Photocraft”.

It was vibe coded based on Adobe’s public specifications and observed behavior, and while it contains no proprietary Adobe code, it looks eerily similar to the original. Some people even suspected that AI might have decompiled Photoshop to source code. But even if that’s not the case, AI is getting so good that it’s very believable that it might one day be possible to do this.

If this is the case, as Eric Raymond declared, closed-source is dead.

What does this mean for privacy? It means that companies will no longer be able to hide surveillance in the apps on your devices. It’s possible that soon you’ll be able to use AI to decompile the software on your device and see exactly what it’s doing behind the scenes.

AI has made surveillance easier than ever, but we can also use it to protect ourselves.
The age of “trust us” software is ending.
Privacy revolution incoming.
