I recently began using essential oils. I have long had a curiosity about them and finally decided to try some. I became a Wellness Advocate for a well known essential oils company but found it much too expensive to continue with them when I had to spend money to make money. However, in the several months that I was with them I learned quite a bit about what essential oils are and all the different ways you can incorporate them into your life.
Essential oils are derived from the roots, flowers, seeds and bark if different plants. These oils are highly concentrated and very potent. Also referred to as volatile aromatic compounds, essential oils are what give a plant its aroma, protect them from harsh environmental elements, insects and are also involved in plant pollination.
When you see the word volatile, you may become worried, but all this refers to in reference to essential oils are their ability to change states quickly. Their chemical make up allows them to disperse through the air quickly. This is why my favorite way to use my oils is in a diffuser. There at many varieties of diffusers on the market but you can pick up a relatively inexpensive one on Amazon or at our local discount department store. I use a cold water diffuser as warm or heated water can change the chemical make up of your oil and then it won't perform as it is supposed to.
The three oils you should have in possession if you decide to try them out are Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint. These are the three oils everyone should own. You can diffuse them separately or all together, it is your preference and the fun of it is you can play around with the amounts and ratio of oils. When these three oils are used together, I generally do three drops of each, they are a great combination for clearing nasal congestion, and they smell wonderful at the same time.
This was just a little intro about essential oils for those who are curious and not sure where to begin. Always do your research to see what is safe for you, children and pets, what is safe for diffusing, topical or internal use. Also check with your physician as well to see if it is medically safe for you as an individual to use. I do not claim to be of the medical profession. Always do your own follow up.
I would love to know who else uses oils and what your favorites are. I am still learning and getting to know all the different oils available out there.
