Small account here that gets next to nothing from curation and has probably 80% or more of his rewards coming from one whale and their alt accounts...pity or amusement, maybe both 馃槀
I've earned 7 sp in 7 months from manually upvoting content I like. That's only been possible from a boost of 230 SP in delegation from a few very much appreciated steemians.. The majority of the rest of my 360 SP or thereabouts comes again from just one whale that will admit they're gaming the system and self voting. Not vote selling or running bid bots but a bad actor in a broken system nonetheless. I don't think I'd do any different if I were protecting my investment. Would u? How so?
I don't think I'm an anomaly in that the largest proportion of my growth has come from one or only a few large stake holders. With these large stakeholders having self voting cut in half along with the other components of the EIP better behaviors will be encouraged. Is it a panacea? No!
Does it guarantee improvement of course not.
Is there a possibility that after the dust settles and some of the percentages are dialed in for greater efficacy that we will have less of a plutocracy than we have now? YES!!
Does are current system offer any endgame to the abusers and bad actors? NO
It will get worse before it gets better indeed, but for a big picture long term perspective I feel something must be done.
Many think this is a fly by night half cocked idea that is being rushed through. It is not. This was first proposed over a year ago by whales abusing the system as the lesser of two evils and the only way that would get them to cease with the bullshit.
Each facet of the EIP has collateral damage, take away one of the implementations and things fall farther from grace. Change is never well received. People need to get over the lie they were sold that they could come here and thrive in a pay to play system without paying.
I'm not here for big short term gains, I'm here for the censorship resistant platform and the edification I've gotten from exposure to some of the most cutting edge tech on earth. I am the normie newb potential future mass adopter that will come for similar reasons as I did.
YouTube has massive numbers and takes large cuts, reddit u get diddly squat. 10 % of 30.000 penny upvotes is way better than 75% of whatever insignificant niche following one might be fortunate enough to have within our 50k active users. That's a very slow road to basically nowhere.
Bite the bullet now and accept it takes money to make money in this world and time is money. How many non investing thousands of dollars are successfully earning on steem without gaming the system? Next to none is the answer..
Plus if it bellyflops we can raise hell and go backwards or sideways or forwards with another fork.. If this place is only about paying the bills here and now with steem, I don't think that was realistic and those people should probably leave.
Also say a whale friend delegates you thousands of SP for a month, you're then getting some serious curation income never before possible. People are only as good or bad as the system or environment they're a product of. This system is busted and destined to fail as it stands. Furthermore, no business that is a startup makes profit for years sometimes, why should a non investing content creator like myself expect significant pieces of a pie I didn't bake? I'm just sitting here with a fork ready to eat what crumbs are left until I pay my dues, that's life..
