Have you considered a full suspension mountain bike?

Yes, but I have excluded it. I prefer trekking bikes because I intend to ride longer tours with bags. I think the body position is more convenient for me on trekking bike.
On a daily basis, I use it to commute to work so a urban landscape with asphalt is a major one.
