Wow! Look at these blooms.
Yesterday my friend Sara and I went to the Desert Botanical Garden. She is in town visiting from Ohio and I take out of town and local friends alike with me to the garden.
I need to remember that going in April is AMAZING! The cactus were in bloom!
Flying Saucer Cactus
This cactus blooms for a couple of days and they were putting on the most incredible show when we went to the garden.
The flowers can get up to 10 inches wide! The pinks were stunning.
Cereus Cactus
The Cereus cactus is another columnar cactus that is pretty average for most of the year and then it has amazing flowers too!
Hedgehog Cactus
This is the Carlet Cup hedgehog cactus. Although these flowers are considerably smaller (3-4 inches) the bright orange colors is very striking.
Prickly Pear Cactus
These blooms I see often, even outside the garden. There are many prickly pear cactus at Arizona State University, where I work. These flowers are very light and delicate.
Lady Finger Cactus
This was a great surprise for me as I have seen the lady finger for years and this was the first time I had seen if flower.
Desert Rose Tree
This is a small tree that grows 3-5 feet tall and produces these gorgeous delicate flowers.
Palo Verde Tree
The palo verde tree in full bloom with all the yellows against the blue sky is spectacular.
