Caught up with some friends for dinner last week, and when there is a big group of people, hot pot is always a good choice.
This restaurant is called Budaoweng Hotpot Cuisine and is located on the 23rd floor of a building facing the beautiful Hong Kong Island across the Victoria Harbour. The view alone is worth coming here for dinner.
This is our table for the ten of us and it was massive. The two circles in the middle of the table is the under table stove and where you place the hot pot to cook the food.
There is an extensive menu of many types of fresh ingredients, with their wagyu beef slices being the most popular. In addition there many other dishes ranging from pork, chicken, fish, vegetable, noodles etc etc.
For the seafood, you can choose them fresh from the fish tank inside the restaurant.
If you've never had hot pot before, here's what happens. Once you've ordered the food and soup base, the next thing you do is mix your dipping sauce. There is normally a wide variety of ingredients and you can mix and match your own. This varies from restaurant to resturant but typically you will find soy sauce, chilli sauce, satay sauce, sesame sauce, fresh chilli, chopped spring onion, garlic paste, coriander and fried crispy garlic. You don't have to use everything, just make your own preferres dipping sauce.
The saucepan on the two stoves contains the soup base we just ordered. We were waiting for it to heat up here that's why you only see the lid. Some of the food has arrived already. You will notice that this is raw, we need to cook it ourselves by dipping it into the soup. They only take a few moments to cook.
Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of the famous wagyu beef slices. Eveyone tucked in immediately after it was placed on the table and the plate was cleared up within minutes! Here's a photo I sourced from a popular restaurant review site in Hong Kong.
After dinner, we were served dessert and some fruit. This was on the house. This photo credit goes to my friend EC.
I wished I had taken more photos of the food to show you, but I was too busy chatting away to my friends and tucking into the food and dropped the ball a bit. Hopefully the great view I showed you will make up for the lack of food photos as I think Budaoweng is about ambience and view as much as food.
Unless stated otherwise, all photos are taken by myself.</>
