I knew it was commonly held in the scientific community that the universe was expanding, but accelerating seems like a new concept to me, even though it would make sense as everything explodes outward and begins to congeal into larger masses it would pick up momentum in a vacuum.

This sounds like a rabbit hole I'll end up lost in soon.
