I believe it is. I’d go farther to say it’s detrimental to modern society for a number of reasons, including enforcement of the patriarchy, generating falsehoods of permanence in situations that demand flexibility, and, the ever-present belief that people can exert some degree of ownership over another. That’s just off the top of my head. I imagine with the time and inclination I could rant on this for hours.
