I'm not sure what's inspirational about working in a hotel and there's not a lot to say other than sometimes we find crazy stuff. I found a box of drug paraphernalia once that had a really nice nectar collector style vape tube that I still haven't gotten to use because I live in a state that still punishes people for cannabis and can't find any dabs. I once found a double plug sex toy and some lube on top of the closet, as if someone was hiding it from someone else in the room and forget about it and shortly after that one of the girls in housekeeping walked into a room where someone had just left a dildo lying in the office chair all by it's lonesome. We tend to just throw those away.
We also, occasionally, get to see the best and worst in people. Sometimes when going into a room you can tell the guest was courteous and trying to be helpful, even though they often do so in a way that hinders the daily routine, while others think that because they're paying for the room they have license to abuse the staff by just trashing the place. And I'm not talking about people drinking and being carefree..., being carefree is part of the staying away from home experience. I'm talking about the kind of people who stomp mud from their work boots into the carpet, or fling pennies all over the floor so a room that should take 30 or 40 minutes to clean takes an hour and a half. Most people are nice. Some are juvenile. Some just want to punish someone.
On a brighter note, though, holidays and special occasions are augmented. During those times of the year everyone is mostly awesome. Once in a while we'll get a tip just walking down the hall and guest are far more likely to tip and leave bigger tips. I'm not a fan of the tip economy, but on the rare occasion it impacts me positively I stfu and enjoy it. :D
There's also some crazy stuff that happens that I don't know how to categorize. Case in point, one of the younger girls that works there had an interaction with a guest some time ago that I don't really know how to process. She was in the hallway and a guy approached her with some money in his hand, but his demeanor made it clear his intent was a proposition, not a tip. He didn't say anything and when she didn't accept he casually walked away. She was very upset by it. She said he made her feel like a prostitute. I think she's just young and naïve and that was the first time a guy was honest with her about his intentions, but I'm a 47 year old guy raised by boomers so wtf do I know about what's appropriate or not in the world these days? Nothing, that's what. The last two decades of my life have been an ongoing process of unlearning everything I was taught so I can hopefully catch up enough to get into the new world instead of being cast out to rot with the old shit. I don't know where the hell I'm going with this now so I guess I'm gonna quietly peace out. Thanks for asking! :)
