Death is often a sensitive issue. Secretly, we all find it a bit scary, and not everyone has a secret idea.
As far as we know right now, death is not yes / no. You're not alive at the time, you're not dead in the other, it's a time-consuming process.
What we have is a limit, a point we can't come back to. That's when the heart stopped, and now the brain cuts. We were able to expand the limit with modern drugs and new techniques, but the second border is still difficult.
You're going to die when your heart stops. Blood loss causes you to lose consciousness quite quickly. Your brain is still there, but you can't take it all. At that moment you don't feel anything at all, so you can't feel that you're dead (if you don't have too much damage too quickly). Consciousness is our subjective experience, when it is gone, you will not feel anymore.
It's not like the kind of deep sleep you're dreaming of, but the kind of sleep you've been asleep with and suddenly you wake up a few hours later. Your feelings were closed for 5 minutes with eyes.
Then it takes some time for the brain to stop. Your body does its best to protect it, but eventually the house of cards falls and the brain stops. When this happens, you won't come back. We don't have the means or information to reactivate the brain right now.
There's a period between "dying" and the brain's brainwashing. There are strange things going on in his body that fight to survive and fight against the damage that accumulates inside him. This is where most "near death" experience comes.
When the brain dies, it doesn't stop, it's the opposite. You're really dead when your brain stops and you can't get better.
