The scene opens in a beautifully green park, the grass covered in white and pink cherry blossom petals. An elderly, frail lady...probably in her 60s walks slowly towards and empty bench. With two cups of coffee in her hand.
A smile curved her lips as she gently clears the bench of the cherry blossom petal and golden brown dry leaves.
The set becomes dark and the scene reopens to a new black and white scene - a flashback.
A young handsome couple is seen walking along the same park.
Amber giggles.
The couple walks to the cafe round the corner, holding hands.
(Corvus) : 2 large coffees please! Looks at Amber... The coffee here is exceedingly delicious, did you know!?
(Amber) : Of course Corvus! Why do you have such short term memory? We had our first date here, don't you remember?!
(Corvus) : Right! He laughs airily.... How many dates has it been amber?
(Amber) : Ummm....I don't know, I haven't keeping count have I! She giggles girlishly.
(Corvus) : Corvus replies with playful sarcasm... Who's got short term memory now eh!
(Amber) : Well, I don't keep track of time when I am the happiest I've ever been in my life.
There was a pause in conversation. Corvus looked at Amber with utmost affection in his eyes.
The gaze was broken as their coffee was ready.
Corvus hands a cup to Amber.
Amber was still caught up in their previously broken gaze.
He looks at Amber as a slow, soft romantic melody starts to play in the background. The wind was carrying the fallen petals of cherry blossom across the park.
The music suddenly stopped. Amber stared back into Corvus' eyes. Only the rustling of the wind could be heard. Corvus takes a final sip of his coffee and puts down the cup. As he stands up the audience sees something glistening in his hands....A ring! With a beautifully ornamented rose on top of it.
Amber finally drops her guard of measured giggles and lets out a whimper of happiness.
Upbeat, happy music starts to play..
They embrace in a kiss as the curtains close and reopens into a new scene, still black and white.
The ambience is filled with suspense and fear and sadness as noises of gunshots and bombs going off in the distance deafens the audiences' ears. A radio broadcaster call for all young and able men of the country to join forces with the military and stand as defence to the country against the invaders.
Amber is seen sobbing as Corvus in his military dress promises her to get married as soon as he returns from the war.
*gunshots...
*more gunshots....a few bombs go off at once as bricks scatter everywhere...
(Amber) : Don't be late, I'll keep your coffee warm...
(Corvus) : I'll be back before the coffee gets cold!
Corvus smiled and winked at her as he walked away..
The curtains close and reopens to the present day..
The wind was carrying the white and pink cherry blossom petals all over the park as the sun readied itself to set. A beautifully painful melody play on the harp and the flute...
The elderly lady takes her eyes off her watch. Corvus was going to be late again, for 40 years in a row! She looks at the ring on her finger - the lilac of the setting sun glistened over it, it's ornamented rose looking ever so gorgeous...
Curtain closes.
