Crypto is a future tech and I believe in the potential, but over the last few years web3 gaming has risen up and corrupted a few things.
Digital Ownership NFTs:This concept seemed to be a blessing but it was corrupted by get rich quick schemes.People that wanted to make a token out of thin air and then pump up its value and dump it used this concept along with the concept of games to usher in the GameFi.Now using games as a financial instrument is weird. Just bad incentives really, especially token farming games that just cycle money around to an every smaller player base. This offended a lot of big players and money in the traditional gaming ecosystem that featured Online marketplaces with in-game currencies and rare items and skins. Even then you could have conversations about how to adapt things for true digital ownership to work, but next game the "crypto bros" running around X and youtube talking about taking an item from one game and bringing into another game. This was the straw that broke the camel's back.No one in the game industry wanted to talk about this anymore as the thought was the tech debt to create this was too high and probably not achievable.
