Windows are a major killer of birds during the migratory season.

There are many ways to make your windows safe. Check out http://flap.org

If you find an injured bird, it is best to put it in a paper bag. Often, it will need just a bit of time to recover. When it starts to flap to get out, it is usually ready for release, in a suitable place (wooded area), preferably. When it is just lying on the sidewalk, it is at risk of being stepped on.

And during this time, it is also helpless against a number of predators such as raccoons or gulls.

Avoid handling the bird any more than is needed to put it in the bag, so as to reduce its stress.

Wash your hands immediately after handling any bird.

Birds migrate at night. Turn the lights off, especially in high buildings to help them get a safe migration.

The migration ends in late October, early November.

Our wildlife needs all the help we can give it.
