I will present here a new memory technique to remember names and faces. I like my new method, which I just invented today because it doesn't link the name to the face as do just about all other techniques for memorizing names and faces.
I don't know if anyone else has ever attempted this method or thought of it but I'm presenting it as my own invention because I have never heard of it before.
I tried it today and I'm happy to say that I think it works, by experience with it. I plan to continue working with it until I can memorize about 20 names in one minute. Right now, my best is 11 names in 1 minute on memoryleague.com using the more common methods of associations.
This morning, I managed 4 names in 1 minute, which was my objective using my new method.
So here is how it works: I use a journey ( a series of stops along a route that I'm familiar with) and at my first stop, I took one aspect of the face and visualized it there. This was a curly hair in the forehead. Then I put her name Valerie on my working table in my head as I began looking at the next person's face. Again, I felt that the most noticeable feature here was a straight strand of hair that divided her forehead in the middle. So I visualize this feature at the second stop of my journey and then link the first strand of hair visually to the second one in the journey.
At my next journey point, I retrieved from my working memory the name Valerie and created an image VALse Riz, riz is a french word for rice and so I saw someone dancing a valse with a bag of rice. At the next stop, I figured an image for the second name, Lynn. It was a lion, and to emphasize the 2 "n" at the end, I added an extra pair of legs to the beast. Next Face I once again decided to use the air because of how they projected in a special way, and once again, I anchored this at my next stop, and put the name (which I now have forgotten) in my working memory table. Then at the next stop, I put the feature of the next face that I felt was most notable, the ear rings. At the next stop, I created an image for the forgotten name that was on my memory table and used a character I knew personally for the last name, Andrea, I think it was.
Recalling this was easy enough. I'm very hopeful that I can make this work much faster with practice. I also like the fact that this trains my memory journeys something which other methods rarely do with Names and Faces.
Along with practice, I will also train to prepare already made up images for most common names and I will train this aspect separately using Anki.
That's it. If you want to find out for yourself if it works, just give it a try and let me know how you like it. And if you think it's working nicely, please don't hesitate to resteem!
Thank you!
