Please, give your answer to that question in the comments. As far as I'm concerned, I started the year with a big bang, a $50 post 3 times bigger than my next best post. I feel as if I'm a bit like the odd beginner gambler who wins big the first time he buys a ticket and now can't wait to do it again.
Unfortunately, my big bang didn't happen on my first post. But I knew when I wrote it that it was a good quality post, perhaps my best so far and so to see it fly off the way it did made me think, Steemit is awesome. But really, I think I just got super lucky that my post was examined by a competent ocd curator. I'm sure many posts from new people don't receive this privilege. That's why I still feel so lucky!
Anyway, I am now changing my "About" page on Steemit to reflect my current mood better: "I am so excited and thrilled to be on Steemit!" That seems like a more fitting message for my front page.
And then what happens when you get such a success is that you think about earning more successes like it. So you start analyzing what you did right and that this will give you clues as to what you might want to do next.
What I did right was to start writing on a daily basis. This advice comes from most of the top earners that I know about. Also, receiving key information made a difference: I was informed that Busy was giving generous upvotes for posts. Well, generous is a relative term and the value of the upvote can vary but for me that means getting about one 40-50¢ post a day.
As a matter of fact, my strategy at the beginning was to spend as little time as I could making short, substantial posts that are readable and mildly interesting so that my followers don't think of my posts as shit holes and unfollow me. But the thing is, the more you do something the more you sometimes get to enjoy it even more. That's how Steemit got me attached to its web and working on it as a cheap labor. Quite frankly, the promise of potential great rewards isn't as appealing to me as the appeal of minor ones, such as the likely upvote from busy. That's because I'm a believer in doing what you want to do first and foremost as opposed to "go where the money is." I think self esteem is priceless, and I have learned that the way to earn plenty of that is by first and foremost developing skills and doing things that you, yourself find impressive, regardless of what others have to say about it.
Well others do still matter, especially your followers because they often can enable you to keep on doing what you want to do. This is is why I also added, "My followers are number 1!" on my About page.
