Hello Paint Time Friends!
I have a pretty little painting to share today. This will be my last of the winter landscapes, as I am running out of white paint, and also I feel that all my paintings are beginning to look the same.
This painting is so cool looking. I started this painting on my own, following Bob Ross's famous advice of starting with a light source and then adding in the background.
I wasn't sure what colors I was going to use, so I started out with white to make the moon, which is my light source, and then blended in cerulean blue.
I added a pinch of black to the blue, to create the darkness of the night; pulling the rays of light downward to where I created, what I was aiming to be, a deserted road.
I also used the blackened blue to form the background trees, adding white to the color for the highlights.
What was meant to be bushes, become smaller trees, as I added more tree trunks and limbs to the formations. As I worked my way forward, I added dark grey bushes and then filled the remaining space with some magenta foliage.
The trees on each side of the road turned out pretty nice. I was able to add a little purple to lighten up the skyline a bit.
I attempted to add some rocks, but it was just a big old mess and I didn't want to wait till the paint dried to add my bears.
Since the base of the road was blue, and I had made such a mess with the rocks, I decided to pave the road with black. This gave the entire painting a new look; making the light colors of the trees and bushes pop.
When I thought about what my focal point was going to be I thought about having a deer standing in the middle of the road.
I've watched Urartstudio, who does a very easy deer, but when I tried to make it previously, I didn't do so well. I decided to bypass the deer and tried to think what else would be crossing the road?
I decided on a mama bear and her cubs. I found cool video by Chuck Black Art, which showed the process of bringing the bear to life once I used the stencils to place the silhouettes.
The Mama bear was much easier to paint, as I had more room to work. The cubs had a few facial alterations before I could get them looking good.
I added my favorite part, the falling snow over the whole painting.
I added some burnt sienna to help the bears' faces stand out. I also added some to the fur cause it looked cool. I liked the technique this painter used as he highlighted with grey, then white, and then went back into the black to make the fur look realistic.
I ran into trouble with the bears and the road both being black, so I added some snow under their feet to help enhance their shapes. I am happy to say I can now paint more than just trees... you know with the help of stencils!!!
