With immense pleasure, today I'm going out to share another beautiful post with you about a place I visited and discovered in Tuscany. It's another less touristy place and probably not known beyond Italy's borders, although in reality, many Italians I knew didn't even know where this place was. But it's always a pleasure to share these discoveries with you.
We are still in the Chianti area in the province of Siena, but this time we'll explore Lecchi, a hamlet of the Gaiole in Chianti municipality. Even in this place, the permanent population consists of only 100 people, a number destined to keep decreasing. Like the previous village I mentioned in my previous post, Lecchi is also surrounded by vast vineyards, making the landscape even more beautiful and characteristic.
Here, too, I started my exploration on foot, but one thing I noticed is that there are more locals here compared to other depopulating villages. There are more commercial activities that can certainly provide an extra service to tourists in this area and offer economic support to those living here. Of course, like other villages, Lecchi is made up of these stone houses that are always very characteristic, and in my opinion, that's the most beautiful aspect of these places. Here, I found very narrow streets, and if you're not careful, it's easy to get lost, as it's sometimes like entering a maze.
Inside this village, I didn't notice many monuments or something that caught my attention in terms of culture, but in my opinion, the village itself is an open-air museum, and that's probably the most important thing. There was also a very ancient church here, and like in other places I mentioned before, I found it completely closed. I was told that it's only opened on certain holidays during the year.
As I walked and passed through the village, I came across this castle, which has now been transformed into a private villa that can be rented. It even has a private pool. Unfortunately, the castle is not open for tourist visits, only for renting the villa and staying there. I didn't find much information about this manor, but I think it's a castle that dates back to the 1400s and has probably been modified over the years, transforming it more into a noble villa. I must say it looks very beautiful from the outside. I have to admit that staying inside a castle is an experience I'd like to have, and I've seen quite a few available on Airbnb. You never know, I might consider it one day.
