Hello Steemit! Happy Memorial day!
Today is a day to remember our fallen heros of war, and even though there is Veterens Day to honor all those who have, or currently serve for our country, I still like to honor them today 😊

My Grandfather served as a Marine Rifle Specialist in WWII. I don't know a whole lot about what he did, because he did not like to talk about it. He was extremely "tight liped" about it his whole life, never once telling any storys. I can respect that, but have never been more curious in my life! After he retired from owning his own Phillips 66 Service Station for 35 years, he was 1 day from moving out of his home and had a chest stolen from his garage. It just happened to be full of everything he had from his time in the service, including his uniform, medals, and any documents. Very sad indeed 😢 I'm sure I (we) would have a better understanding of his time over there if we had that chest. I do know that he was in Japan and the Philippines.
There were a few things my dad had from him that my brother and I inherited when he passed away. This is all the memorabilia we have of Grandpa's time in the Marines, along with a few VFW buttons...
So, as I said before, he owned a gas/service station for many years, and luckily Gramps was no fool! He saved all of the silver coinage people would pay for gas with over the years! Can you imagine someone paying for gas with Morgan Dollars for face value?? Well, it happened alot! This is half of what he had left us. The other half is in my brother's collection 💗
He also saved all of the 70's Ike Dollars he got. There is over 100 in here! 😁
I also have his watch. He was issued this watch in 1977 for 25 years of service (retiring in 1987) and he wore this watch every day of his life untill the day he passed away.
I miss you Grampa 💗
