My heart and prayers go out to all of the valley residents of the towns of Everson, Nooksack, and Sumas Washington.
The torrential rains did not let up all last night, then 40 MPH winds started……….
No one was prepared for how quickly the flood waters were rising, and are still rising as I write this post!
100 year old flood records were broken!
The Mountain streams are roaring, bringing more water to the valley quickly!
One of the highest spots in the small Canadian border town of Sumas, is Liz and Silvertop Church.
Built in 1913, it has weathered many flood years, always high above the water.
It is a refuge at times like this, for town restaurants whose homes are under water.
This afternoon water was inside the sanctuary, and many people that were taking shelter had to be moved to the local high school!
The wind slowed late this afternoon, and I ventured up to the high trail, for a hike. Many trees were down including the one we call the “Widow Maker”.
I have been watching this tree for two years waiting for a wind storm to bring it down.
Finally it crashed to the ground during this storm!
It’s a good thing Silvertop wasn’t nearby when it came down!😇
The fresh drinking water is being turned off to these three towns, and talk of the electric as well.
Locals have their personal boats out looking for stranded residents.
The National Guard is on the scene, and has rescued some stranded residents.
