The flowers on my one and only tree rose, a Double Delight, never stop surprising me. Every time it blooms, it feels like it’s showing off a new personality. The colors shift so much that it’s almost like watching a slow-motion magic trick. The buds start out a deep reddish pink, bold and dramatic, and then as the days go by, the petals fade into this soft, creamy white with just a hint of pink at the edges. And in between those two extremes, it cycles through every shade you can imagine. It’s like the rose can’t decide what outfit to wear, so it tries them all. It very much reminds me of my youth!
The first photo I took 👇 was in early summer, when the colors were bright.
The second one was from early fall, when the blooms looked softer and more muted. Same plant, same spot, completely different mood. That’s one of the things I love about it... this little tree rose has range.
Another funny thing: it loves to peek over the wall. Every time it grows a new bloom, it stretches just far enough to look like it’s spying on the neighborhood. Sometimes it looks like it’s leaning over the wall just to see what everyone else is doing... or maybe it just wants someone to admire it. Honestly, I don’t blame it. If I looked that good, I’d want an audience too.
It’s a small thing, but seeing this rose shift with the seasons helps me feel more settled. It makes me realize that even one plant can have a whole story, a whole personality, if you watch it closely.
All photos were taken by me with my iPhone.
I hope to see you again soon!
