The golden calla lilies (Zantedeschia Elliottiana) are blooming once again. These yellow lilies blooms through late summer and are perennial plants. They have been with me for a decade now. They grow easily with not much attention, just daily watering and fertilizer once a month during spring and through fall.
The flower was named after the Greek word for beautiful鈥攃alla. Calla lilies are also symbols for rebirth and resurrection. While the name may be misleading, calla lilies are not technically part of the real lily family. Instead, they are a different type of flower with blooms similar to those of true lilies. They are a member of the Zantedeschia genus and the Araceae family that also includes the philodendron. Source
Golden yellow calla lilies flower throughout summer with stalks of yellow finger-like spadix surrounded by a leaf-like curved bract known as a spathe.
In front of the calla lilies are the hibiscus. They are fantastic yet ordinary tropical flowers. This hibiscus is in its second year in this garden. The last year, it did not flower much, but this year you can see how many buds it has!
Hibiscus is not difficult to grow and the tropical hibiscus blooms from spring through late fall and into winter in frost-free climates like here in California (almost frost-free, that is).
They certainly brighten my day!
