1924 Peru Lima 5 Decimos
The Peru Sol is a valued item for South American coin collectors. This silver Peru Sol from 1924 is stunning. The soles were always made of silver in 1924 when this Peruvian sol currency was produced, and the value of the sole was approximately equal to that of the dollar.
On the coin's obverse, Liberty is depicted along with the words "FIRME Y FELIZ POR LA UNION" and "UN SOL" at the bottom. A cornucopia, a llama, and several plant species may be seen on the reverse of this unit of currency.
The silver sol had a wide range in mintage from year to year. The mintage of the 1924 Peru sol was 96,000 The sol served as Peru's unit of currency from 1863 to 1985, but in 1991, the government of Peru developed the Nuevo Sol (PEN), which is still used today. Early in the 20th century, Peru had a complicated money system made up of numerous different coin kinds that were intricately linked to one another and to various forms of foreign currency.
The sol is a coin that bears the same name as the Spanish word for "sun." Its name is derived from the solidus, a type of coin used in ancient Rome. The fact that the Peruvian sol is indirectly named after the sun is only a happy coincidence given that the sun has appeared in practically every unit of currency used in Peru throughout its history. Any collection of goods made of Latin American money will benefit greatly from having this Peruvian sol. It might be necessary to retain it with Nuevo Sol and peso coins that display Peru's rich history through its money, from the earliest Spanish colonial money to the contemporary times.
