Last night I was on a zoom call with some of my long time friends. The subject of the two multi state lottery drawings came up. The Mega Millions jackpot is now at 720 million dollars with now winner last night. The Powerball jackpot is estimated at 1 billion dollars tonight.
If you take the one time payout option, that would be roughly 520 million dollars. After taxes you’d roughly end up with about 330 million clear.
The question is what would you do???
Would you go crazy and spend a ton of money on whatever you could think of?
I would take a very conservative approach. Yeah, I’d buy some things. I’d take my time a find a place that I wanted to build a house. It would have to be an acre of land, because I not only want a house built on it but a monster woodworking shop with all the best tools available. I’d take 5% of it and buy gold with it. Which would be quite a purchase. That’s 150,00 ounces of gold, or 300 monster boxes of American gold buffalos.
I’d also donate 5% of it to things I believe in Saint Jude’s Children hospital for cancer, and others like that. I’d would buy a Mustang Shelby Cobra that is my dream car.
I would help out some friends and family. Nothing crazy, but make their lives more manageable. I’m sure there’s more but why think about something that’s probably not going to happen.
