FIVE BASIC THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE FOUR LAYERS OF OUR PLANET - "THE EARTH"
The earth as we all know is one of the planets in the solar system. Many people see the earth as just a ball floating in space, but there is more.
Here is a look at a few basic things you must know about the earth.
Based on chemical composition, the earth is divided into four layers: THE CRUST, THE MANTLE, THE OUTER CORE and THE INNER CORE.
The earth's outer core is liquid
The inner is solid and continues to the centre of the earth at a depth of 6470km.
The outer edge of the core is as hot as 4,500 degrees celsius and increases to 5,400 degrees celsius at the very centre of the core, hotter than the boiling point of iron which is the major constituent of the core by 90%. But the iron in the inner core does not boil due to the high pressure holding it as a solid.
The temperature of at the inner core of the earth is almost the same as the temperature at the surface of the sun at about 5,400 degree Celsius and 5,600 degree celsius respectively.
I will be back with more of these facts in my subsequent publications.
