Hello everyone,
Hope everyone is well. I am well too. Today I am going to share about a great anime I saw called Lookism. I watched it on Netflix in one day. At first, I thought it might be a very ordinary Korean anime. But no, it was more than I expected.
Just by hearing the name of this anime, you can understand that it will talk about beauty or "good or bad looks". But the more I watched, the more I realized that it is not limited to this. It is a story of blind discrimination, social attitudes, bullying, self-confidence and finding one's own identity within our society. In a word, it is a wonderful human story.
This story starts with a schoolboy Park Hyung-Seok. He is fat, unattractive, and therefore is bullied every day at school. Everyone around him belittles him, insults him, and even no one except his own mother wants to understand him. Daniel's life was so monotonous and sad that he considered himself a burden to society. But suddenly a miracle happened. One morning he woke up and saw that he had a new body. The previous body was in a dull state, and the new body was handsome, tall, well-built, absolutely perfect! During the day he roams around in this new body, goes to school, attracts people's attention. At night he returns to his old, neglected body.

The magic in the story is not only getting these two bodies, the real magic is the search for self-identity. Daniel does not use this new opportunity only for his popularity, but gradually he finds his old life in the eyes of other oppressed people in society. From then on, he begins to change not only in his own life, but also in the lives of the people around him. The anime has shown very realistically how we respect or despise someone just for their external beauty. Everyone loves Daniel in his new body, values his opinion, he gets a lot of opportunities, but no one cares about the old Daniel.
Lookism was animated by Studio Mir, who did work like The Legend of Korra or Dota: Dragon's Blood. The animation is absolutely brilliant, the characters' expressions are very lively. And the soundtrack? In a word, amazing. The background music perfectly captures the emotions of the story. Especially the way the music slowly creeps in during some dialogues is like a thorn in the side.
I myself was often the victim of others' laughter and ridicule because of my appearance as a child. So I felt the pain of the character Daniel very closely. When he was crying while hugging his mother, I couldn't hold back my tears.
Lookism showed in a very realistic way how much a person's confidence and self-esteem depend on his appearance. The story moved me from the inside. I thought to myself, if I had such an opportunity one day, what would I do?

I have seen Lookism Season 1 with my own eyes and understood it with my heart. It is not just an anime, it is a mirror where the face of society is seen. For those who have not seen it yet, I would tell them to take the time to watch it. This anime can change your perspective.
If any of you have seen it, please comment below and share your opinion. We can discuss this great story together.
Thank you everyone! 😊
