Dear Hivers,
Last night I discovered something fascinating.
You see, all of us know about success. Perhaps you remember some life-changing stories — people shifting from poor to rich — rags to riches — and nothing to something.
But imagine 100 years ago?
Times were different. You don’t see smartphones. No Internet. And no news circulating every single second.
Yet there was this one man who changed his life and the way he did it… is applicable even now. Here he is:
His name is Albert. And you won’t find a lot of information about him online.
The good news is: Albert went from $300 debt to making $2 million. And, along the way, even changed lives of dozens of authors.
So here’s the story:
Albert went from nothing to making $1000 a week. This was way back in 1920s where the average yearly income was incredibly bad. It was around $438.
Plus, the World War just ended — and the economy wasn’t in a good shape.
Despite all these, Pelton climbed the ladder of success — and did it with a wife and 2 kids. If that wasn’t enough — he achieved all this in 3 years.
And Albert’s amazing success story should inspire us all.
So what he did he do?
Back in those days, the only way to sell book was to knock on one door after another. And so Albert continued this for 12 years.
Some would buy. And others would politely decline his offer. And a tiny portion of them would curse him for disturbing them.
But one day his life changed.
Someone wrote a letter for one of the book he sold. The book was called the “Power of Will.” And this gentleman thanked Albert. Not the author.
Even though Albert was intrigued, he was also busy knocking other doors.
Yet letters kept pouring in as several people found the book helpful. So Albert decided to read this book and apply the principles.
More than that, he loved the book so much that he approached the author — and decided to sell this book to the mass audience.
How? By asking money!
He took $300 and started advertising the book on a magazine.
He knew the book was brilliant. Now all he had to do was sell more of it. And within no time, Albert found the secret to success — advertising on the magazine.
And he purchased the rights of this book.
Then he went onto spend every profit he made back into advertisement. And he quickly spent over half a million dollar on ads.
And made over $2 million dollar in profit.
In fact, Albert went onto start a publishing company where he would buy good books — from authors. And sell it through his advertising campaigns.
Because of him, even Napolean Hill found his big breakthrough. So if you read Napolean Hill book, you might find his name on the first couple of pages.
The story inspires me for several reasons:
- Even during tough times — during war and bad economical situations — there is no reason to lose hope.
- You have to grind for years to achieve overnight success (12 years of selling books)
- Once you see something working, scale it.
- Effort creates luck
Isn't this true?
This is, perhaps in the last 100 years, the first story on Albert Pelton ever written. And it is published on Hive.
So I hope you enjoyed this reading this story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Cheers,
Sid
