The majority of caterpillars do not pose a risk. The ones with rear projection like horns on the tail of the caterpillar hawkmoth do not sting in any way. Some caterpillars do have destructive spines that can cause water blisters if you brush them on the inside of your arm. Other caterpillars are uncomfortable to spew vertebrate predators like birds, and we do not recommend trying to eat caterpillars.
