Not sci-fi but a horror novel where one of the characters can teleport, just not well, so his brain deteriorates a bit more after each time he does it. Spoiler because, the teleport thing is not discovered until halfway through the book (because he doesn't know he can teleport at the beginning - becuase of the brain damage).
