Agreed. I took a speech class on Persuasion Theory back in the University of Hawaii. One of the case studies was on the reciprocity in gift giving. Moonies used to hang out in airports and give flowers to people, then ask them for a monetary donation. If you have their flower in your hand, it makes it really difficult (at least for an American) to say no. Even if they didn't want the dumb flower to begin with.
