Here in the states a scone is a slightly-sweetened, wedge-shaped biscuit that is pretty dry and bland. When I worked at Starbucks they served it in a paper bag with nothing to put on it and had no way to heat it (that's changed recently). I never understood the fascination with scones, but lately it seems to be the "go to" pastry at coffee shops in the U.S.
