After acquiring an iron rod, I fought off multiple monsters, turned the terrifying survival horror experience into an empowering ghost-hunting spree before saving progress at a shrine.
Searching for a route toward the general store, I immediately ran into a menacing ghost blocking the path. Her movement pattern was completely unpredictable, she suddenly froze in place, only to lunge directly at me the moment I closed the distance.
I managed to time my dodge cleanly to slide past her initial strike. Outrunning her wrath led me straight to a Hokora shrine, which turned out to be an incredible mechanics system.
Offering up the Yokan I looted earlier granted me 30 faith, while trading an antique comb yielded a massive 300 faith payout.
I decided to keep my bandages and red capsules for emergencies, spending my faith instead to gamble on a random Omamori. Unlocking the Clam Omamori felt like a huge win since reducing the enemy's line of sight is massive for a stealth-heavy game like this.
Saving my progress didn't mean I was out of danger, the unsettling walking noises proved the ghost was still tracking my position. Moving deeper into the fog, Hinako heard Rinko calling out for help, triggering a tense cutscene.
As the creature backed Hinako into a corner, she spotted a heavy iron rod on the ground and picked it up.

Reading the lore entry for these creatures, lumps of stitched flesh approaching with sickening wounds and creepy smiles, added a awesome, tragic horror flavor to the encounter.
Clearing out three ghosts in a single run made me feel unstoppable, even if I know facing the larger fog monster again won't be as straightforward.
Stumbling across another Hokora shrine right after the third kill was perfect timing, as it allowed me to restore my stats, save my progress, and take a breathe.
