This is a sad tale you share, but not an uncommon one.
It is a common saying to ask if people have common sense, as if good common sense was common
Sadly, unlike this tale, it is not common. I feel some have gained wisdom with age, and others have just gained age.

Remarkably, some of the older and wiser may intervene, and save this gentlemen, from himself. Old ideas are just that..old… and not automatically true, or wise. I believe Thomas Jefferson said, the government should change every generation, to prevent the young from being ruled by the cultural norms and ethics which are no longer true. While much wisdom can be obtained from our older members of society, we must be critical enough thinkers to discern the wisdom from the ignorance. Mr. Jefferson called it, the Tyranny of the Elders. Strong words indeed, but meant not to insult or belittle, but to grab your attention, and make you think. Mr. Jefferson, mission accomplished.
