In the US Publis Transport is variable. Here in Hawaii we have a very good bus system, and we have our Skytrain, an elevated train with beautiful views of the Island. If you ever visit Waikiki, the bus is a good way to get around, but if the Skytrain is going in the direction you want to go, it's the best. I think it's one dollar per ride, but we pay for refillable cards, that I just put 20 dollars on once a month and ride for 4-5 weeks. Bus and Train, and transfers are very helpful. If you get off somewhere, you can get a transfer to ride another bus for free heading to your destination.
