Hive not dollars
Hive not dollars, is an important concept because small dollar value Hive awards during the bear are larger Dollar rewards during the bull. And while this is a very important concept, and a good reason to continue being active here during bear markets, it isn’t the biggest reason I am here, and hopefully it won’t be yours after you read my post.
This post is the result of a post by 
- I am not here for a quick profit.
- If I was I would be one of the most patient quick profiteers in history, having been here on Hive since the beginning and I was on Steemit for perhaps 2 years before that… LOL
- Second the reasons I am here: Hive not dollars, is an important concept because small dollar value Hive awards during the bear are larger dollar rewards during the bull.
- But perhaps more importantly; we should not be focused on small gains, but a life changing experience of community, financial freedom and self determination that the social and economic opportunity of Hive offers us.
- It is not a pretty socio-experiment fantasy of which I speak.
- It is a reality for people who built their stake in Steem through the bear market, and benefitted from the fork, as treacherous and as scary as that was, at the time, when financial ruin seemed to lurk around every corner.
- It was not for small gains some of us stayed, but we believed in the promise:
- life changing gains over time, as the token slowly appreciated against the dollar, becoming more valuable, and thus worth more dollars.
- these gains would provide financial freedom, where we could replace our jobs earnings, with Hive earnings, and be able to quit our jobs.
- self-determination, where we would become our own employer, dependent not on a job for our sustenance, but upon ourselves and profiting from the network of friends and acquaintances we built up here.
Hive, Leofinance, Splinterlands, 3Speak and others
We all have the freedom to pick our niche, or community/communities to be active in, and build our networks within them. In pursuit of the dream outlined above.
Wine and Roses
It’s not all wine and roses. We must understand the paradox of freedom here on Hive. This is the paradox of an open free world with very few rules, and an overall concept of rewarding content you wish to continue, and ignoring content you wish to stop. It’s a simple concept; what you nourish flourishes, what you ignore withers. But there is an active system of downvotes meant to punish other behaviors or people these active groups deem worthy of downvotes. These are the good, the bad and the ugly, which seem to exist in all things made by humans.
Hive, dollars, Knowledge and Freedom
In closing remember, Hive is not pegged to a dollar, so it may be worth less then a dollar now, but possibly more then a dollar later. If you persist your network and rewards should grow overtime, as your stack and network of followers, admirers and benefactors grows. The true value lies not in the short term gains, but the longterm rewards of financial earnings, financial knowledge, financial freedoms, self-determination and becoming part of something bigger then yourself.
Lastly, remember Hive is made up of humans, you can’t live with them, and can’t live without them. So hopefully we learn not just how to get along, but eventually how to enjoy each other’s company and appreciate each other’s content.
