The main structure of the Bangabandhu-1 satellite has been created by France's Space Agency Thales Alenia Space. The initial work of the project started in 2008. After the national and international movements, the satellite was sent to Florida in the United States on March 30, 2008, after the construction of the satellite. There was a final preparations for the launch of the satellite on May 10, 2008, at 3:47 pm, on the rocket of another space research company SpaceX. But in the last minute it stopped because of a technical error. Finally, on Saturday, May 11, 2008, the satellite was successfully launched from the Florida Kennedy Space Center on Friday night. Through this, Bangladesh owns its own satellites as the 57th largest country in the world.
The location of the Bangabandhu-1 satellite in space will be 119.1 degree East longitude. Apart from this orbit, all parts of SAARC countries, including Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, will be covered under the Bangabandhu-1 satellite.
To control it, Ground Control Station will be the main center for satellite control at Joydebpur in Gazipur.
Now there are around 30 satellite channels in the country. These channels are being operated with satellite rentals from different countries of the world including Singaporeans. As a result, a channel rental costs about three to six thousand US dollars per month. Overall, the channel's balance of the year is $ 2 million or about 17 billion taka. With the introduction of Bangabandhu-1 satellite, this expenditure will be reduced. You can also rent 20 out of 40 transponders in this satellite.
