Yet another 4 hours of work on my model!
This was once again streamed over on Twitch.tv
Alright! What a time comsuming thing this is!
Retopology is.. simple and easy. but so very time consuming.
But it is very much a need thing, as the sculpted model that has lots of details has around 1.7 MILLION polygons. Needless to say.. blender can't really work with that many when it comes to animations and moving said polygons in mass.
So rebuilding the model over the HiRes version makes sense.
At the start of this session I generally only had part of the head completed. I decided to continue building the harness around the model setting up my various edge flows for the limbs and chest, wings etc. It's generally a good idea as it helps a lot when it comes to filling in areas.
Take a look what I've got so far.
HiRes is 1.7M polys, Retopo is 2.8k so far.
I have learned one very important thing so far, Don't be too conservative in how many quads you are using. Honestly I'm using far to little at this point, which will probably lead to some problems later on. But rather than start again or anything I'm just going to get this model completely finished and then see how bad it is when it comes to doing other things like subdividing and animating.
If it's really bad, I'll probably take what I've learned and try again. If it's not that bad I can go back and fix a few areas with relative ease.
Assuming it's not a complete disaster I could have a model that's good enough to throw into Unity and get set up for VRChat.
I would really like to take this through the complete avatar making process so see where I need to make improvements later on. Maybe after that's done I can revisit my little dino boi model and make that actually function properly.
