And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor.
And they murmured against her.
And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

예수께서 베다니 마을에서 '나병환자 시몬'이라는 사람의 집에서 식탁에 기대 먹고 계시는데 한 여인이 값비싼 순수한 나드 향유가 든 옥합 하나를 가져왔습니다. 그리고 그 여인은 옥합을 깨뜨려 향유를 예수의 머리에 부었습니다.
거기 있던 사람들이 화를 내며 서로 수근거렸습니다. "왜 향유를 저렇게 낭비하는가?"
저것을 팔면 300 데나리온은 족히 될텐데. 그 돈을 가난한 사람들에게 주었으면 좋았을 것을." 그러면서 그들은 여인을 심하게 나무랐습니다.
에수께서 말씀하셨습니다. "가만두어라. 어찌해 이 여인을 괴롭히느냐? 이 사람은 내게 좋은 일을 했다."
가난한 사람들이야 항상 너희 곁에 있으니 너희가 원하기만 하면 언제든지 도울 수 있지만 나는 너희 곁에 항상 있는 것이 아니다.
이 여인은 자기가 할 수 있는 일을 했다. 내 몸에 향유를 부어 내 장례를 준비한 것이다.
내가 너희에게 진실로 말한다. 온 세상 어디든지 복음이 전파되는 곳마다 이 여인이 한 일도 전해져서 사람들이 이 여인을 기억하게 될 것이다."
