Way to go, @chris-uk!
You'll become more comfortable and get a sense of your voice and show style the more that you do. As far as audio and lighting, here are some simple and effective things you can do without buying anything new:
- Turn off the overhead light. It causes shadows on your face
- Get a desk lamp and put it behind your computer screen. That will light up your face well enough. If you happen to have two desk lamps, put each one at a 45º angle on either side of you will light up both sides of your face which is just a bit nicer. Not necessary though since a single lamp behind your laptop screen will do well enough.
- Add accent lighting behind you. This could be as simple as a lamp on the ground behind you. This will help to separate you from the wall which gives a slight pop to your video. In the future you could look into getting colored lights or even a colored bulb to put in a lamp behind you to add some of the fun gamer vibe.
- Frame yourself in the video. Some headroom is good, too much is unnecessary. We're here to see you and not so much the room occupy. Some background ambiance is good, but too much room and not enough you is not.
Kudos on stepping into something new for your content creation. I'm looking forward to seeing even more videos from you in the weeks to come. Have fun. Cheers!
