@mehmetfix: I was speaking with my family about this and they clued me onto something I hadn't considered. Perhaps what is considered normal in one part of the world is considered bold in another. I can tell you that your question did indeed come across as bold. This is not something people in my part of the world generally ask unless they are talking about children.

So I can see that my response to you seems odd given that in your part of the world it may be a more common question to ask someone of a certain age especially given we do not know one another IRL. This is a good example of how we can learn from one another's customs and cultures.
