I remember my high school years like it was yesterday, I was never the best student although I tried to keep decent grades so my parents wouldn't get upset with me.
I liked to get into teenage trouble, you know, to have a good time with my friends, joke around, go against the rules, etc. Without going to extremes either, those were good times when we didn't have the responsibilities that come with adulthood.
I remember a classmate who always sat in the last chair in the back of the classroom, he was called the Caps, he spent all day drawing in his notebook class after class, all the time, or so it seemed from afar because he was not a good student. One day I approached him to talk to him and see what he was drawing, to my surprise what he was drawing was nothing more than his nickname, Caps, giving him a style that I had not seen before, but that in a way called my attention, he told me that what he did was called graffiti, that was my first contact with that world, something in me had changed.
From then on I began to search in magazines and on the internet in those years more about graffiti and urban art and I began to be more and more interested in this culture.
Caps taught me the basics of graffiti, he guided me, he talked to me about the difference between illegal and legal graffiti, he said that he preferred to earn respect illegally, that is, taking over spaces without permission from anyone, which to me was not very interesting to say, because in that way you did not have enough time to do quality artwork, he also told me about the styles and who were the best exponents of the country and the world at that time, among other things.
The first time I painted a wall was in an event that Caps invited me to in 2005, organized by him and his friends. There were many graffiti artists from nearby towns, for me, it was something new and exciting because there were also those who through hard work had earned certain respect from everyone for their graffiti, and in a way they were the ones who had almost all the attention at the event.
When we were assigned a space, my friend, who accompanied me at that time known as Cosmo (although I called him Rosco), and I felt very nervous because it was the first time we painted with so many eyes looking at us. From that time I only have this photo that was the result of my first Graffiti on a wall.
From then on I did much more graffiti with my friends, I don't have pictures of all of them, but the few I did show what I liked to paint in those early years, always accompanied by good friends and listening to good music, with whom I shared those pleasant and sunny days.
Time cannot be turned back, but if you could change something from your past, would you do it? In my case maybe I wouldn't change anything, I liked things the way they happened, although I can't paint graffiti as I used to, I still think that one day I'm going to do it again, I don't know how and I don't know when, but I know it will happen because I just can't get graffiti out of my head.
I wanted to show you my first works hive friends, I will do a second part, so stay tuned.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, see you in the next post.
