Always keep an eye out for the beauty in the small things
Here we have a Golden Orb Weaver couple about to mate. Most species of spiders show extreme sexual dimorphism, which means the size of the individuals of the species vary by sex. In this case, the female is many times larger than the male. The female can be a rather large spider with a leg span of 5 inches or more when fully grown.
The Golden Orb Weaver can produce a web up to two meters in size. It is also one of the strongest spider silks known to science. This spider is harmless to humans. It does have a bad habit of making webs right at face level however, so be careful when hiking in Golden Orb Weaver territory.
