Hi I'm Josh, a open source software advocate -- beliver in the GPL; web developer -- PHP and JavaScript, for WordPress and Laravel; blogger -- mainly about WordPress development, but recently blockchain as well; sci-fi fan and vegan.
I got started in open-source development because I was very interested in the way that open-source creates mutually beneficial relationships. I'm pretty excited that I make my living primarily selling free software -- I make a fairly popular WordPress plugin --
and teaching others web development. Obviously, open-source is way messier than the ideology, and I see blockchain as an opportunity to build those relationships into the structure of future networks -- social, financial, corporate etc. I've also been slowly learning Solidity so I can program dApps in the Ethereum Virtual Machine eventually.
I was attracted to Steem because I see networks like this as a way to decentralize social networking. Also, I want to better understand, by participating, how blockchain technology can change content monetization. In my industry content monetization mainly means ads, which means perpetuating the data oligarchies.
Fun fact, the Steem I got for signing up is the first crypto-coin I ever acquired. I've mainly been observing and learning re: blockchain and cryto. Steem is helping me jump into actually being a part of something blockchain-powered!
